Outcomes of the Symposium
On November 19th the ADMP team presented their current work including their platform to the New York audience. The symposium was well attended and captured the attention of people from a range of disciplines.
Through the presentations during the symposium which featured talks from representatives from the UN Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), the World Bank, and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the importance of disaster management research was highlighted. In particular, the topics of global collaboration, governance, communications, and open standards within the context of disaster management were discussed.
As a part of the event the University took the opportunity to announce the establishment of their new research centre – the Centre for Disaster Management and Public Safety which will be dedicated to research in this area. It is hoped the success of the event and the support received for the ADMP project will help raise awareness for the need for research in this area and will promote further collaboration between organisations in this area.
